Why skin prep is so important
Important points to understand:
• Be sure to schedule your appointment for 2 days before your event.
• Be sure to exfoliate 24hrs prior to your appointment. This creates an even base for the spray tan and allows your skin time to restore. Exfoliating too close to your tan can reduce the Maillard reaction. Dead skin is detrimental to a spray tan because the DHA (active ingredient) binds to the top layer of skin cells, causing the tan to shed rapidly in patchy, uneven, or flaky spots as those cells naturally fall off.
• If the pH of the skin is not around the normal 4.7 this can affect the cosmetic colours. A Deluxe Tan offers Skin Prep first to balance the skins pH.
• Note that any products applied to your skin that act as a barrier, strip moisture levels or affect pH and can hinder your tanning results. For example, Dove Soap can cause streaky and uneven results if used before or after your tanning appointment.
• After your spray tan session try to avoid any activities that involve sweating, or submersion in water, as these will cause your tan to fade quicker.
